A beloved punter and kicker for the Toronto Argonauts, Zenon Andrusyshyn has carved a space for himself in North American football history.

Zenon Andrusyshyn, forever dubbed Günzburg, West Germany, when he was 12. From adolescence, he demonstrated incredible athletic ability, excelling in track and field; he held the Canadian high school record in the javelin toss for an incredible 35 years, and set a national record in 1966. For this, he received a track and field scholarship at UCLA, where he prepared for the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

During this time, Andrusyshyn suffered a severe arm injury, which prevented him from living out his Olympic dreams. As a result, he decided to try out for the UCLA football team as a walk-on. He was a quick success, becoming a two-time All-America punter with the UCLA Bruins (in 1967 and 1969), and was voted to UCLA’s All Century Team. the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts from 1971 to 1977, and from 1979 to 1982.

In 1978, he moved to the NFL to play with the Kansas City Chiefs, and after his second stint with the Argonauts, he went on to play with the Tampa Bay Bandits of the United States Football League from 1983 to 1985. He ended his career back in the CFL, playing with the 1986 Montreal Alouettes.

Andrusyshyn holds the record for the longest punt, launching a 108-yard kick against the Edmonton Eskimos on October 23, 1977. Today, this punt remains a record for both the CFL and the NFL. Andrusyshyn also holds the CFL record for the longest field goal, a mark he set on September 14, 1980 when he kicked a 57-yarder against Saskatchewan. as a Southern Baptist minister in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1995, he graduated from the Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Arts, Biblical Studies (MABS) and became the Tampa Bay Area Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for next two decades.

In October 2007, Andrusyshyn and his wife, Sue, formed Zenon Ministries Inc., a non-profit youth ministry. With this group, he has completed over 15 mission trips, including the delivery of medical supplies to Cuna Indians in Panama; support visits to Cancer Hospitals for youth in Kiev and Odessa, Ukraine; and various missions to England, Germany, and Mexico.
