Sandra Post was born to golf. From the young age of 5, she practiced at the Trafalgar Golf & Country Club with her father, honing her craft over the course of her childhood and teenage years. By her adolescence, she had already created an outstanding junior and amateur resume, winning both the Ontario and Canadian Junior Girls Championships 3 consecutive times— each.
In 1968 and at the age of 19, Post’s pro career began. Later that year, she beat Kathy Whitworth at the LPGA, becoming the youngest-ever major championship winner at the distinguished tournament—a title she held for four decades. Following her career’s stellar beginnings, Post continued to dominate the professional golf circuit. Over her 16-year career on the LPGA Tour, she won 8 championships, captured backto-back victories in 1978 and 1979, and had 20 runner-up finishes For her incredible athletic efforts, Post has been named to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame, the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, and, of course, the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame; been inducted into the Order of Canada; finished second on the 1979 LPGA Money List; won the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s “Athlete of the Year;” and ranked 8th on the list of Canada’s Athletes of the 20th Century. Since her retirement in the mid1980s, Post’s star has continued to shine. Over the last 3 decades, she has captained Canada’s Nations Cup Team; served as a commentator for televised golf events; penned informative books and articles; produced educational videos; and become one of the top golf instructors in Canada.
Further, she launched a signature line of clubs with Jazz Golf, and has started her own golf apparel firm. To foster Canada’s next generation of superstars in this sport, she founded the illustrious Sandra Post School of Golf in 1984. With locations across the country, Post’s namesake continues to foster the talent of young Canadian athletes—and spread her love for the game, itself. With this, Post has passed on the proverbial torch, encouraging the aptitude of young golfers as Oakville’s courses did for her.
