While Rob Zamuner has travelled the world for his internationally-renowned hockey career, his heart has always remained with Oakville.

Hockey is Rob Zamuner’s passion he is a product of the Oakville Minor Hockey system. Starting at age 10, he had the opportunity to play at all levels of the Oakville Oaks Hockey Program, before moving up to Junior A level with the Guelph Platers of the Ontario Hockey League.

After three seasons with Guelph and time in the top professional minor leagues, Rob made his National Hockey League debut with the New York Rangers. He then signed as a free agent with the 1992 Tampa Bay Lightning, a team with which he played for seven seasons—and captained in 1998. In 1999, he was traded by Tampa Bay to the Ottawa Senators, where he spent two seasons. In 2001, he moved to the Boston Bruins. Over his 798-game NHL career, Zamuner scored 139 goals, Zamuner also played hockey internationally, representing Canada’s gold medal team in the 1997 World Championships. He was also a member of Team Canada at the 1998 Olympics in Japan, and the 1998 World Championships in Switzerland. His 17-year playing career ended in Europe, where he played in the top professional European League. He played one year in Bern, Switzerland, and his final year in Italy (the home country of his father, Frank).

In 1999, Rob was named winner of the Florida Sports Award. This honour is bestowed upon athletes and coaches who are dedicated to increasing overall awareness of athletics.
