
MacDougall began playing lacrosse in 1965 in the Oakville minor rep system. He continued through Junior until 1981, when he finished his playing career with the Brampton Excelsiors of the MSL. As a player, his best season was 1976/77, when he amassed 88 scoring points playing in the Oakville Clippers Junior Program.
Although he was no longer a player, MacDougall got re-involved in lacrosse in 1991. At this time, he sought to resurrect the sport in Oakville after years of dormancy won the Ontario Provincial A Championship.
In 1996, MacDougall held the first Celebrity Lacrosse game, which featured current and past National Lacrosse League players and Hall of Famers. This became an annual event, with the aim to promote lacrosse across Ontario.
In 1999, MacDougall was asked to participate in the creation of a new Toronto NLL team, The Toronto Rock. He created the Rock logo as the US. This allowed players to showcase their talent for University Scholarship Awards. Players from this program were successful in US college lacrosse, and played on many championship teams.
MacDougall has also been on the coaching staff of Team Australia’s National Lacrosse team since 2003. Rob has also had the opportunity to travel the world and participate in the 2007 and 2011 World Championships. Today, he continues to coach Oakville Minor Lacrosse.
