Portrait of Jack Davidson

Born and raised in Oakville, Jack Davison’s illustrious career began on the humble playing fields of our town.

teams. He was part of the famous “Young Rangers” Junior A hockey hockey in Oakville in 1956. His teams won many championships, and he was incredibly successful in helping local youth develop their skills—and attitudes.

Beyond hockey and baseball, Davison also showed great talent in golf. He began caddying at the Oakville Golf Club in 1935, and by 1959, he had become the club’s fifth professional. As an amateur, he played in The Canadian Open three times (in 1949, 1950, and 1951), where he had the privilege of playing with such golfing legends as Lawson Little, Cary Middlecoff, and Jackie Burke. He also qualified a number of times for the Ontario Open, and was victorious in many local tournaments over the years.

Having played or coached at every level of hockey, Davison joined the Chicago Black Hawk Organization in 1959 as a talent scout for Ontario. Having an eye for great talent, he quickly, rose through the Black Hawk administration, holding the positions of Scout for Eastern Canada, Chief of Scouting Operations, Personnel Director, Assistant General Manager, and finally, Vice President of the Chicago Black Hawks. He proudly wears a Stanley Cup Ring for the Black Hawks’ win in 1961.

Throughout his career, Davison participated in the signing of many outstanding NHL players, such as Dennis Hull, Keith Magnusson, Cliff Koral, Dennis Savard, and a fellow member of the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame, Vic Hadfield. Until his passing in 2012, he quietly continued to provide invaluable support to minor hockey and other sports programs in Oakville.
