This Oakville-born athlete has established a world-class career in the sport of Lacrosse—both in the field and box varieties. As a child, Dan Dawson flirted with hockey, but later settled on his true love: lacrosse.
As a professional, Dawson has played a major part on many championship teams. He is a 7 time Canadian box lacrosse champion (Mann Cup) and a 1 time Major League Lacrosse (field) champion (2009 Toronto Nationals). Representing Canada, Dan has won two World Indoor (Box) Lacrosse Championship titles and was a finalist in the 2010 World (Field) Lacrosse Championship. Additionally, he won two Champions Cups as a member of the Rochester Knighthawks in 2013 and 2014.
As a Junior, Dawson played for Brampton Excelsiors Jr. A in 2002, before jumping to the Brampton Excelsiors (MSL) that same year. Backed by his skill, his team won the Mann Cup (Canadian Championships).
Dawson was signed by the Victoria Shamrocks in 2005, and helped lead them to their 8th Mann Cup victory. He won the Bill Ellison Award twice, and was named the MVP of the 2005 and 2006 World Lacrosse Association playoffs.
He also played a major part in many championship teams from 2002 until 2014 in the Major Series Lacrosse League and the World Lacrosse Association. He entered championships with the Brampton Excelsiors, the Victoria Shamrocks, In his international Lacrosse Career, Dawson was a Member of Team Canada from 2004 to 2011. Together, they won the Heritage Cup for box lacrosse, the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Halifax, the World Lacrosse Championship, and the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships in Prague. From 2003-2004 and 2013-2017, he was a star player for Team Canada at the Heritage Cup, an international friendly competition.
For his scoring prowess, Dawson has often been referred to as the “Wayne Gretzky of Lacrosse.” He ranks in the top six on the all-time National Lacrosse League points list.
