Portrait of Bob Labbett

Bob Labbett has been a key player with the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame since its inception.

Since 1998, Bob Labbett has donated his time and effort to the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame. As a member of the original board, he has seen the organization through periods of massive growth, something that would be impossible without his presence.

Labbett took over as Chairman of the Board in 2001. He is responsible for developing a first-class induction ceremony that has been widely praised by athletes and attendees alike. Additionally, he was able to secure a physical home to display its records; he arranged a display in the lower concourse of Oakville Place, which received a wonderful response from the public for its six-year tenure.

Under Labbett’s watch, an annual golf tournament has also been established, the proceeds of which are used to establish scholarships and advanced training assistance for young Oakville athletes. He has also brought the Hall into the digital age with a new website. For his constant effort to advance the Sports Hall of Fame, the town of Oakville presented him with a community spirit award.

An outstanding athlete in his own right, Labbett has won numerous amateur championships in Golf and curling. At the University of Western Ontario, Bob earned first-team Varsity letters in football, hockey, and track, and was also a recipient of Western’s top athletic aware: the Purple Blanket.

Following his love of sport, Labbett has had a successful 50-year career in the Golf Industry, as Owner, Greens Superintendent, and Founder of a company in golf project management and course design. He also served as a Founding Member and director of the National Golf Course Owners Association (USA).

In addition to his work in the athletic community, Labbett has staunchly supported many local charities, and is a long-time member of Rotary International.
